Well, I'm finished with the show now. And I'm pissed. That was a terrible, awful ending. Vetter is killed while Nick is stopping a criminal, and he blames himself for it. Natalie gives Nick an ultimatium to either bring her across, or try to be human using the strange Janette method. In the attempt he could bring her across or let her die, and he....chooses to let her die and asks LaCroix to kill him? If that weren't enough, we're left entirely unsure if LaCroix went through with it, so we'll never know.

Shit, why do shows so very rarely end in non-suck ways?

In closing: quite the unique and interesting series, on the whole. Through Nick, they really managed to explore the humanity of the vampire archtype, and even through LaCroix at times showed that they were not entirely without goodness in them.

The show peaked in season 2. Despite a couple of high points (Nick getting shot in the head, and LaCroix's pissed as all hell daughter showing up), season 3 just didn't work. It was never the same without Schanke. Nick's efforts to become human tapered off, as well as the developing relationship with Natalie. For all the time they spent on the crappy subplot, the Vaschon/Tracy relationship went no where and had a weak conclusion.

Ugh, I don't know. I enjoyed season 2 so much. So it irritates me that 3 was so bleh. Especially the second half. After the bizarre Janette's return episode, it just quickly fell apart, as the stories decided to go into social issues (drugs, abuse, mental illness, racism) and mysticism (reincarnation and demon possession), culminating with the crappy, overly-flashback heavy last episode. It's like they got new writers who didn't know why it was so good before. Which is possible; Janette and Schanke's actors getting canned from the show like they did seems to indicate something was up behind the scenes between seasons.

Think I'll buy seasons 1 and 2, and pretend it was just cancelled after that.
