The first word in the forum description is books, so I demand to know. I've been on a historical bent this week, so I read Truman Capote's book In Cold Blood, the Richard Preston novel The Hot Zone and now I'm reading The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. Two of the novels are about serial killers (true accounts both) and the Hot Zone is about what ebola can do to you (also a true story). Apparently it's really not far removed from the T virus in resident evil. Suddenly that game isn't...

Read the surreal House of Leaves. One of the most bizarre and indescribable books ever. I've never seen a book where the text goes inside out, up the page,
upside down, in the corner, and various other weird patterns to match with the hectic pace of what you're reading. For stretches it's literally
'turn the page, flip the book over, turn the page, flip the book back' and craziness like that for lots of stretches. And I can't say I've seen

I'm reading It Can't Happen Here, by Sinclair Lewis. It's pretty disturbing stuff. It's a fictional narrative that makes the argument that
America is more ripe for fascist dictatorship than most citizens think. It was written during World War II, but in the earliest of days, a few years before
America entered. Even now, it's an appallingly insightful and prescient book (the part where sauerkraut was called Liberty Cabbage because America wanted

humanity into world peace. Of course there's more to it than that, but I ain't about to spoil it. It was a very interesting book, dealing with a

Read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. That was....different. It's written from the perspective of an autistic boy trying to write a novel about his attempts to solve the murder of a neighbor's dog. So it's very straight forward, detailed, and at times likes to wander off into rants about mathematical equations and such. Kind of hard to read for long periods (but that didn't stop me from reading it all in practically one day). Not sure I like it or not, on the whole....<div...

Reading The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen. It's one of those post modern downers that I find so compelling/depressing. It reminds me of works by Michaal Chabon or Mark Childress. It's funny in a way that makes me acutely uncomfortable with how true the characters wring. They're highly realistic and thus very unlikeable- much like real people, lol. But I can't put it down. It's all about a dysfunctional family possibly coming together for one last Christmas before the family patriarch dies....
